It is not well known to what extent the students of Kuwait University are aware of Ethics and ethical issues especially in the fields of education and medicine. This study was conducted to explore this point and recommend the necessary actions accordingly.A total of 400 students in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (5 different majors) were included in this project. Each student was asked to fill in a survey, anonymously, that contained questions on his/her knowledge of Ethics and Ethics in Education and in Medicine, as well as his/her opinions and beliefs on the importance of ethics and teaching ethics to students. The results were analyzed statistically and were compared between Allied Health students and Pharmacy students, between males and females, among years of study and among different majors of study. There were variations in the answers of the students. Generally, students in the their last year of study were aware of ethical issues, but students in earlier years were not. Also, there were variations in the different majors of study, but there were no differences between male and female students. It appears that there is a general lack of knowledge on ethics and ethical issues among many students in Kuwait University, at least in the two colleges studied. It was noted that ethics teaching was practiced in only few departments and usually to the last year students before they graduate. In addition, there was dissimilarity in understanding and appreciation of the importance of ethics among the students.This study will present details on the results of this study and possible reasons for such results. It will also suggest some corrective steps to be followed to overcome deficiencies in teaching ethics to our students.This study should be extended to include students in the other colleges in Kuwait University to see any difference present according to differences in the major of study. It will be interesting to conduct similar studies in the other countries of the Persian Gulf region and recognize the differences in knowledge and attitude towards ethical issues.
